Braces for Children in Victorville
Welcome to Dr. Hattar Dental and Orthodontics, where we provide braces for children and teens. We know that braces can have a big impact on your child's life, which is why we invite you to learn more about our orthodontic services.
Braces for Children
Children often want braces to improve the appearance of their smile, yet feel nervous when they think about the experience of having braces. Maybe your children worry about the pain they will feel after having braces put on, or feel nervous that peers will tease them for having braces.
In reality, braces have come a long way. There are many new styles of braces that reduce visibility to others. Plus, braces are not painful to put on or maintain. Your child's worries may be for nothing!
While we can put braces on individuals of any age, there is no denying that preteens' and teens' teeth respond best. This is because the structure of their jaw is still changing, so teeth are highly moldable.
If you are a parent wondering when to consider braces for children, we recommend you bring your child in around age 7 for an orthodontics evaluation. If your child has apparent dental irregularities, you may seek orthodontics assistance earlier.
What to Expect With Braces for Children
We know that, despite our reassurances, your children may have questions about what to expect with braces. So that you can answer their questions, we have gathered information on what to expect with braces for children. We recommend you use this information to help your children prepare for getting braces.
Why are braces needed? Braces help correct dental irregularities. These may be genetic, or they may arise due to habits such as thumb sucking that affect the teeth's positioning. Braces can reposition teeth and change the jaw structure to protect oral health and restore a healthy smile.
New patients will receive a visual exam, panoramic x-rays, and dental modeling from our dentist. We may take computer-generated images of your child's head and neck. Our orthodontist in Victorville will then use this information to develop a personalized, effective treatment plan.
We usually recommend fixed braces, which are attached to the teeth. Because these cannot be removed (except by us), they lead to the fastest treatment. Modern styles are clear or white, reducing visibility.
Depending on your child's needs, we may also recommend headgear, which fits around the head and adjusts developmental irregularities. After braces come off, we may fit your child for a retainer to keep the teeth in their new position.
If you have any other questions, we would be happy to answer them for both you and your child during an appointment.
